As a young girl growing up in rural Thailand, there are few opportunities for education, training and employment. Thousands of young women move to Bangkok each year, seeking work to support parents, grandparents and siblings back home.
These women arrive in the city with little preparation, no savings, no connections and no real, marketable skills. Their opportunities in Bangkok are limited – factory work, domestic labor, cleaning and sometimes worse. Often times they will have to take the first job they can find.
With stark choices and growing financial pressure, they often become trapped in informal, underpaid or unsafe work, gradually wearing them down.
For 15 years, Goodwill Group Foundation has provided these women with a different opportunity: an opportunity to build skills, to make new friends and to find work that they can be proud of.
From English language and computer skills to first aid, self-defense and job interview preparation, Goodwill’s schedule of free career and personal development workshops make a real difference to women in Thailand. We create a warm and inspiring community, where women feel supported and valued as they take the first step to a brighter future.
In 2014, Goodwill was awarded the Mid-Sized Thai NGO of the Year by the Resource Alliance and the Rockefeller Foundation. Find out more on our main site here.
